Okay, so *NO* new registrations, please...

The GREAT thing about Gene's Machine is that it's run for a select group of people, and I really don't need to open it up (like some wanton business) to the general public if I don't feel like it. Ills of the Internet, I guess, but due to the amazing amount of SPAM login requests I was receiving, I decided to employ a CAPTCHA "front gate" watcher, which worked for some time. It was annoying, I know, but it was functional, and that's all that I needed. About a month ago, some robo-idiot out there decided that they absolutely needed to join Gene's Machine - and for whatever reason began the SPAMMING yet again. So I updated the CAPTCHA, to little avail. It now cuts out some 70% of the bogus login registrations, but not all - some of them kept "leaking" into my InBox. Fair enough - I just DISABLED user-generated logins, and NOW if you want to join Gene's Machine, you had better find a way to eMail me and identify yourself.

Ills of the Internet - yeah, I find it impressive that somebody has found their way past the CAPTCHA - but I figure I'll just need to play with it some more, and we'll be back to allowing the Public to request logins. Until then, I'm taking a personal interest in who gets in, and who does not. Hint: Even if you eMail me successfully, unless I *know* who you are, you simply won't get a login. And my SPAM filter on my InBox is second to none - I can (and do) ignore people in droves, especially spammers.

Seriously, whomever is spamming my web page incessantly, you really ought to know that unless I know you *personally*, you simply aren't getting in. All of the robo-account generations aren't going to get you in. A simple eMail might - but that's nowhere to be found on the board, so you'll have to try harder than running scripts at the board and hoping for the best.

And I'm not even sure why you want in - there's literally nothing to see here. Well, maybe there is, but unless you're deeply into physics as a supplement to religion, there is nothing to excite you here. We don't even discuss the mysteries of the universe - we just fix a few guitars, fiddles, banjos, and wonder if that's what life's all about. The forums that were hacked (over a year ago) were DELETED without a backup - s'what'ch'ya get for hacking someone's stuff and then *assuming* it was going to hang around. If you had something stored there (and besides the porn, and there was a LOT) you will find it in that great bit-bucket in the sky: I didn't keep a single thing. There's a lesson to be had, there, but I'm sure you wouldn't get it if I told you, so rest assured that all of that treasure-trove of data, every little bit of it, were deleted with exteme prejudice: no backups were made. It's all gone. But I said that already. In a previous post. Further up the board. And in this paragraph as well, but you probably aren't reading for details at this point.
